Fish Archive Aquarium Glaser GmbH

Toxotes chatareus

(31.Jan.2008) Archerfish from pure freshwater? Is this real? Yes, if you buy them from Aquarium Glaser! We are lucky to have a supplier who is catching this fish for us personally. This man is fishing them infront of a waterfall. This means they simply do not have any connection to the sea;not even to brackish water! You can find their habitats in Sri Lanka India to New Guinea and northern Australia. The maximum size is approx 40cm, which willnot be reached in captivity. You can reproduce them in the size of 12-15cm. In total this is a very interesting species, which is now not only interesting for hobbyists who have a tank with brackish water!(Photo F.Schäfer, Text R.Neunkirchen)
