Sphaerichthys selatanensis

With an overall length of 5 cm Sphaerichthys selatanensis is probably the smallest representative of the chocolate gouramis. It is to recognize at its typical cross design. It origins from Kalimantan the southeast part the island Borneo. As its relatives it lives in sour black water brooks (at the discovery site measured water equivalents: pH: 4.5. LF: 17 ms/cm, temp.: 26°C). They need attention with acclimatizing and maintenance. Natural water conditions should serve thereby as model, peat filtering or the use of tropical-almond leafs are recommended. For the socialization small Rasbora species are suitable, they share the biotopes with S. selatanensis also in the homeland. Breeding of chocolate gouramis is very difficult, in particular the raising of the larvae often fails due to infections.(Photo F. Schäfer, Text K. Diehl)
