Fish Archive Aquarium Glaser GmbH

Hypopygus lepturus

This representative of the South American knife fish is with no doubt the smallest of its genus. The total length is no more then 15 cm. This species comes from Paraguay. They show territorial behaviour against fish of the same species and therefore the aquarium should have plenty of cover possibilities like stones or bogwood. Also hardy plants can be used for decoration. Knife fish are nocturnal animals. Their food consists of all kind of life foods which can be given frozen as well, but they especially like earthworms. This is a very interesting study object, of which still a lot of secrets can be solved. (Text: I. den Daas, Photo: F. Schäfer)
