Curimatopsis macrolepis

The genus Curimatopsis currently includes 5 described species. The most common species is C. macrolepis which also has the widest distribution. Nevertheless this small and highly attractive species has hardly ever been imported. C. macrolepis reaches a maximum length of around 6 cm, but is sexually differentiated with a length of 4 cm already. The males can be recognized by their much higher tail. Depending on the social hierarchy the bright tailspot shines more or less intensive. This tailspot is also restricted to the males. That means every specimen with a red tailspot is a male, but not every specimen without a red tailspot is also necessarily a female, as males with a low social rank also lose their colours. C. macrolepis is a very peaceful species that fits perfectly for community tanks. It developes the best coloration in slightly yellow water, as it becomes from peat or dead leaves. Then the fish even developes a bright neon-green stripe along the body. For our customers: the species has code 251333 on our stocklist. Please note that we exclusively supply the wholesale trade.
