Cichlasoma (Nandopsis) octofasciatum „Blue Dempsey

(04.Mar.2007) In stock: "Blue Dempseys". It is a beautiful blue variant of the usually dark colored Cichlasoma (Nandopsis) octofasciatum. As juveniles, they are brightly colored, the extremely intense blue staining developes only with increasing age. Presumably, the animals are offsprings of a mutant, stabilized by backcrossings. According to our breeders they seem to be less aggressive as the wild form, this makes them particularly valuable for the hobbyist. They have no special demands on the water chemistry, according to their final size of about 20cm, the aquariums should not be too small. Picture no. 2 (please click on the samll blue fish) shows an adult male. (Photo D. Bork, Text K. Diehl).
